Overview.

Our laboratory medicine and pathology service is the science behind every diagnosis. The lab is staffed 24/7 by clinical scientists, with consultant histopathologists, microbiologists, haematologists and biochemists reporting their respective sub-specialty work. Cancer histology and cytology are reviewed in dedicated MDTs, and turnaround times for urgent results, blood culture, troponin, COVID swabs, are tracked against UK accreditation standards.

Questions before you book.

  • Routine biopsies are reported within 3–5 working days. Cancer biopsies needing molecular testing may take 7–10 days. Urgent cases are escalated.

  • Most CBC, biochemistry and coagulation tests are reported within hours. Specialised assays take longer; the lab states the turnaround on request.

  • Yes. Results are available through the patient portal once your treating consultant has reviewed them.

  • Cancer cases and any complex specimens are double-read or discussed in MDT before reporting, in line with UK standards.

  • Yes. Hereditary cancer panels (BRCA, Lynch) and selected disease panels are offered through clinical referral.

  • Rare specialist tests may be sent to UK reference labs. We disclose this and turnaround time at the time of consent.
